WORK-LIFE BALANCE

Work-Life balance is a concept including proper prioritizing between "work" (career and ambition) and "lifestyle" (health, pleasure, leisure, family and spiritual development/meditation). This is related to the idea of lifestyle choice.

When we think about Work-Life Balance or Life Balance, it isn’t about equal balance.  For example, a meaningful change for you might be to make a commitment to going right home from work or, if possible, arranging your schedule to leave early twice a week so that you can spend quality time with your child.  Too often we arrive home from work exhausted.  We walk into our home, grab a drink and a seat and just want to relax.   But with just this little change and a commitment that you make to get home and carve out some time for your child, your life will be more in balance.  You can even make this little change simpler to achieve.  Can you commit to 15 minutes of outside play with your child? (a game of catch, hula hoops, a short walk & talk).   You may be surprised how many times, without even realizing it, that 15 minutes turns into 30 minutes.   Would your relationship with your spouse  or significant other benefit from a weekly scheduled date night?  What about keeping a fishing rod in your trunk and carving out an hour or two a week for some quiet time alone or with a friend?  Small changes make a big difference!  What small changes can you make in other areas of your life?

SMALL CHANGES MATTER IN BIG WAYS

With the smallest investments in the right places you can dramatically improve the quality of your relationships and your life.  If enough people would make simple changes and achieve some work-life balance, it could dramatically change society’s definition of success. Instead of society’s c current benchmark of success being “who has the most money”, a new definition might be “who achieved life balance.”  We need a more balanced definition of what a life well lived looks like.
