This Week's Topic:  How to Be Happy

Are you tired of waiting around for happiness to find you?  According to a recent report by the Mayo Clinic, your attitude and your actions determine your happiness, while what you do and where you live seem to make little difference. People who are happy seem to intuitively know that their happiness is the sum of their life choices, and their lives are built on the following pillars:

  • Devoting time to family and friends
  • Appreciating what they have
  • Maintaining an optimistic outlook
  • Feeling a sense of purpose
  • living in the moment

THIS WEEKS BONUS QUESTION:  Despite what the fairy tales depict, happiness doesn't appear to be magic.  It's not even something that happens to you.  It's something that you can cultivate according to the Mayo Clinic and a November 2010 published study by Harvard psychologists.  What percentage, according to the study, can be explained by personality and- more importantly - thoughts and behaviors that can be changed?

HINT:  How to Be Happy; What Science Tells Us

A. About 10%
