This Week's Topic: The Helper's High
This topic could have been titled: "Don't Be a Scrooge!"  There is real evidence showing that those that are more giving of themselves live longer and healthier.   One large study found a 44% reduction in early deaths among those who volunteered a lot - a greater effect than exercising four times a week.  Almost every study on longevity indicates one secret that makes people healthier and happier-HELPING OTHERS. Specifically, it's the dignity, the joy, the passion and the purpose of helping others that brings these beneficial effects, whether you're helping another person quit smoking, building a home for a family in need or mentoring a child at school. THIS WEEKS BONUS QUESTION:
Americans give twice as much as the next charitable country, according to a comparison done by the Charities Aid Foundation. In these economic times, we need to make sure that our donations are put to good use.  Few people realize how large charities have become, how many vital services they provide, and how much funding flows though them each year.  Without charities and non-profits, America would simply not be able to operate.  Which of the following responses is not true in regard to charitable giving?
HINT: Giving Statistics on CharityNavigator.com

A. In 2011, the majority of giving came from individuals, as in previous years. (Nearly 9 out of every 10 dollars)
B. Adjusted for inflation, total giving has declined 9 times since 1971
C. Religious groups have received the largest share of charitable donations in 2011 (32%), followed by education.
D. None of the above
