Join the group that set the Guinness World Record for the Largest Outdoor Circuit Training
(June 18, 2011 Centennial Park in Howard County, MD)

Update 4/25/2020
We are now virtual!   Join us on Friday mornings for the still always FREE "Boot Camp in the Virutal Park"!   Details and sign-on instructions can be found by clicking on Boot Camp in the Park in the top left banner box on this web portal.  Hope to see you "Virtually" on Saturday mornings from 9am to 10am.  Stay safe; stay healthy and stay active!

Update 3/29/2019
We hope that you will be participating in the big kick-off event for the 2019 always FREE "Boot
Camp in the Park!"  In 2011, with the help of our community partners and an unwaivering committment to promoting wellness, we set the Guinness World Record for The Largest Outdoor Circuit Training in a single venue.   But, it was never about the record; it has alway been about empowering individuals of all ages and fitness levels to get moving and to prioritize wellness!

From our first community boot camp on April 2nd, 2011 to date, over 1600 individuals have benefited from this 100% free community program.   We have so many to thank for their part in bringing this opportunity to our community that we cannot list them all here.  However, as we start our 9th season in Centennial Park, we want to give a special thank you to Brenda Von Rautenkranz for her committment to this program from day one as our Head Trainer.  Without compensation, she has so generously committed hundreds of hours to motivate and empower so many individuals, of all ages and fitness levels, to make fitness a priority.

Thanks to the generous support and gift of indoor space by the Church at Covenant Park.  For the 2nd year in a row, they have hosted our winter indoor always FREE "Boot Camp in the Park"!

And finally, while we mourn his loss, we will never forget the selfless dedication (always behind the scenes) by Robert "Bob" Giromini.   Bob's will always be remembered for his "can do" attitude.  There will be a special award, given out annually in Bob's honor, annually at Howard County Family Wellness Day.  "The Bob Giromini Award" will recognize an individual in our community that, as Bob always did, gives quietly and without recognition to help others.

Update 9/17/2016
This Saturday, over 10 new participants joined us for our the FREE "Boot Camp in the Park".  To date, over 1400 individuals have participated.  We will continue to meet every Saturday morning through mid-November.  This is the perfect physical activity for all ages and all fitness levels.  More than just exercise, "Boot Camp in the Park" is about building community and empowering people to make wellness a priority.

UPDATES
2012 "Boot Camp in the Park" (last session -Saturday, November 24)
This program is coordinated by We Promote Health in partnership with Howard County Recreation and Parks and Get Active Howard County.  Boot Camp in the Park is FREE for every individual that lives, plays or works in Howard County.  More important than setting the Guinness World Record for the Largest Outdoor Circuit Training, is giving every individual an opportunity to participate in on-going weekly physical activity.  Many participants show up every Saturday for the social interaction and support of others.  We Promote Health set out to demonstrate that anyone, at any age and fitness level, can have fun while exercising; that it doesn't have to cost anything to get a good work-out and that a community can come together to provide opportunities such as this to benefit all of it's members.  This program is successful because Howard County has an abundant resource of successful, passionate and caring wellness professionals that are willing to give back.

A Special Thank You to our Volunteer Head Trainer, Brenda Von Rautenkranz!
We would also like to thank Clara Paris for stepping in to keep us moving throughout the year.

Week 4 (Saturday, April 23, 2011):
Despite the fact that it was Easter Weekend and that it rained for a little bit---- we had about 20 participants show up for 10/10 In The Park this past Saturday.  Special thanks to Brenda V. for leading the group!   It went great.

Week 3 (Saturday, April 16, 2011):
Between 50 and 60 participated this morning.  A little cold and a lot windy but everyone had fun and enjoyed the workout.  Next week is Easter weekend but we will still be out there on Saturday morning!

Week 2 (Saturday, April 9, 2011) Our goal is to reach 100 participants by week 2 or week 3.  Weather depending, we beleive that we will have 100 individuals prticipating Saturday, April 9th.  We ask that you arrive early and register by 7:45am.   All participants must check-in at the registration table.  Trainers will be introduced at 7:50am for the warm-up.  The circle workout will begin promptly at 8:00am.  Please bring a water bottle, a mat and/or a towel with you.  Bring your family and tell your friends, neighbors and office mates to join us!

We have spoken at length with Guinness in London.  They have confirmed that we are on track with the structure of our circle training.  They have also confirmed that they understand and support that our record attempt is not about the intensity of the workout but about the effort by each participant based on their individual ability.  They have also expressed their understanding and agreement that some individuals, when necessary, will be able to take short 1 minute (to 2 min.)breaks during any activity when necessary.  They have also explained that a key distinction between our record attempt for the largest circle training versus a military boot camp style workout, is that we incorporate activities within the workout such as Zumba or Yoga.  With this in mind, we do plan on modifying some of our current stations and adding a 6th station which will be Zumba.

Week 1 (Saturday, April 2, 2011:  Over 50 individuals participated under the guidance of 5 professional trainers.  Each trainer supervised the activity at their respective station.  Individuals were divided up into 5 teams and rotated through the 5 stations.  It was announced that we will be attempting a Guinness Book World Record for the largest circle workout.  The date will be set once we reach 100 participants at 10/10 In The Park.  We are confident that, with a base of 100 active participants, we will be able to grow our number to reach the record level.

Starts Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Centennial Park (108 Entrance); On-Site Registration will be open by 7:15am; Meet the Trainers and Warm-up at 7:50am;Circle Workout from 8:00am to 9:00am
